CT Scan

At St. Thomas Radiology Associates, we have a modern GE Multislice CT Scanner. CT scanning, sometimes referred to as CAT scanning, combines special x-ray equipment with sophisticated computers to produce images of the inside of the body.  CT scans of internal organs, bone, soft tissue and blood vessels reveal more details than X-rays and can provide cross-sectional views of all types of tissues.

The CT scanner has a moveable examination table that slides into a ring.  The patient lies on the table while the CT rotates around the table in order to create images.  For some CT scans, a contrast material is used to enhance the visibility of the area of the body being studied.

CT scanning typically takes about 20 minutes and is noninvasive, painless and produces diagnostic images which help in disease detection.
