to come

Jeffrey Guller, M.D., an interventional radiologist from Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City, joined St. Thomas Radiology Associates and the Schneider Regional Medical Center staff in 2005. Dr. Guller is a board-certified, highly-credentialed specialist who brings with him over twenty years of experience in the fields of diagnostic and interventional radiology. Patients will no longer need to go “off island” to have access to a wide array of interventional procedures. Outpatient treatment of fibroids and varicose veins is now available.

Interventional radiology is a subspecialty within the medical field of radiology. Utilizing small balloons, catheters, laser, stents and wires, many patient ailments can be treated as an outpatient. The interventional radiologist uses these tools along with x-ray and ultrasound guidance to treat diseases through tiny nicks in the skin. These procedures offer an alternative to more traditional treatments. Interventional procedures are often performed as an outpatient, making them less expensive with a shorter and less uncomfortable recovery time. These procedures are performed at our offices and at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital in the interventional and cardiac suite. According to Dr. Guller, “Patients tend to feel little pain during these procedures and experience relatively short recovery times. In addition, these procedures are effective and offer relatively low levels of risk.”

As the author of numerous publications and as a former professor to many “up and coming” physicians, Dr. Guller is certainly one of the most sought after interventional radiology experts today. “It’s wonderful to be in the Caribbean and to offer new treatment options to the Virgin Island community,” says Dr. Guller.
