St. Thomas Radiology Associates specializes in both diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology. We are the only radiology practice in the Virgin Islands with interventional radiology capabilities. Recently, we added laser treatment for problematic varicose veins in our office.
Our diagnostic imaging procedures are generally noninvasive and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of disease or injury. Procedures such as x-rays, CT scans, MRI studies, ultrasounds and breast imaging studies (mammograms, breast MRI, breast ultrasounds) are all performed on the most modern equipment.
Interventional radiology is a subspecialty of radiology in which non-surgical procedures are performed using the guidance of imaging tools like x-ray, ultrasound, CT scan or MRI. By inserting miniature surgical instruments through tiny nicks in the skin, an interventional radiologist is able to treat countless medical conditions, often on an outpatient basis. In some cases, interventional radiology procedures can provide an alternative to the surgical treatment of many conditions. Examples of candidates who could benefit from interventional radiology procedures include hemodialysis patients, cancer patients and patients with peripheral vascular disease. We specialize in a treatment called uterine fibroid embolization, a minimally invasive interventional radiology procedure that provides a non-surgical alternative to women suffering from uterine fibroids.
